The Emery Spartans wrapped up the wrestling season with a trip to Orem for the 2A state championship tournament Friday and Saturday at Utah Valley University.

Competing against the best wrestlers throughout the 2A classification, the Spartans had 16 individuals compete in the season ending tournament. Of the 16, four managed to place, with one qualifying for the championship match.

Junior Ashton Dieli finished second after losing the championship match in a 4-2 decision to Delta's Tanner Shields in a rematch of last week's divisional championship match. Despite getting the best of the Delta sophomore last week, Dieli was unable to mirror the performance in the close loss.

Senior McCoy Christiansen just missed out on his second state championship, but didi finish third in the highly talented 126-pound weight class. Christiansen qualified for the third place match by defeating teammate McKay Meccariello. Meccariello finished sixth in the weight class following the loss.

After defeating Gunnison's J Waylon Bown in the opening, junior Ty Mecham upset No. 1 seed James Scow from South Summit in the second round. After starting the tournament a perfect 2-0, Mecham lost his last three matches to finish in sixth place.
