It was a nice break from the usual hustle and bustle of law making assembly at the State Capital for Representative Brad King Wednesday morning; he was able to take some time to recognize the Boys and Girls Club of Carbon County’s Youth of the Year.

“I was honored this morning to introduce a young lady from Carbon High School, Fawn Powell. She was nominated this year as one of the Utah State Youth of the Year nominees for the Boys and Girls Club of Utah,” said King.

Powell visited the KOAL 103.9 FM News Room in January where she talked about the process and preparing for the state competition. She was required to complete an 18 page application and write three essays entitled My Brand, My Club Experience and My Vision for America’s Youth. She’s currently the Vice President of the Keystone Club which is a service organization within the Boys and Girls Club.

King finished by saying of Powell, “She represented Carbon County very well this morning and really made us proud and I just wanted to take a minute and congratulate her.”

Powell plans to become a nurse when she grows up; she is the oldest in her family and is the grand-daughter of Frank and Cindy Burdick.

If you would like to be a member of the Boys and Girls Club you can visit their website at www.bgc-carboncounty.org or visit their Facebook page. The Boys and Girls Club is located at 30 East 200 South in Price.
