Veterans who reside in the state of Utah may be eligible for a broad range of federal and state benefits and services. A representative is scheduled for a visit at Active Re-entry on Thursday, March 17th, by appointment only.

Joey Allred, Veteran Services Coordinator said, “I’m accredited Veteran Services Officer thru the Utah Department of Veterans and Military Affairs is who we are partnered with.”  Allred has attended several training seminars so she knows the “in’s and out’s” of the paperwork that is required to apply for the correct benefits and services that fit the Veteran’s needs.

Benefits and services can range from compensation for service related illness or disability, pension for low income Veterans over the age of 60, pension for care in a Nursing Home, Assisted Living facility or home-bound care. This is meant to help a Veteran maintain their independence or their spouse; this is a pension that is available to the spouse. Allred mentioned, “There are a lot of different education funds, whether it’s for surviving dependants, for dependants of different war at times have.”  Educational benefits are the least utilized monies either because dependants don’t know about them or understand how they work.

If you would like to meet with Allred you can contact Active Re-entry at 637-4950 and speak with Laurie to schedule an appointment. “There is a check list, in fact, of materials that they need to bring. If the veteran or the spouse does not have the DT214 or discharge papers it is possible for me to assistant them in getting those papers,” stated Allred.

Allred visits Carbon and Emery Counties every other month or as needed. She said, “Usually, it’s helpful to sit down, go over the story so I can have an idea of what forms we need to fill out and what we need to apply for and that would be to call Laurie. But if they just have a question they can just call me.” Allred can be reach at 435-259-0245

If you are unable to meet with Allred at Active Re-entry this month you do have an opportunity to meet with another representative, Gary Stearman from Provo. Stearman visits Department of Workforce Services on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday each month from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. You do not need an appointment to meet with him but it is best to call to let him know you plan on coming in. His may be reached at 801-326-2315 or 801-597-3363.
