Miss USU Eastern Celeste Yvonne Smith is hosting a community Show Drive and is looking for any shoe of any size and style in wearable condition from now until April 1st. The shoe drive is part of a challenge by the Miss Utah organization to benefit the non-profit group Power 2 Become.

“I’m doing this show drive to go to Miss Utah we need a thousand pair of shoes and I’ve already been working on this, I have boxes all over in the community as I did last year,” said Smith. “I have them at Castle Heights Elementary, Price Insurance Agency, Hibbett Sports, Dr. Broadwater’s, Eastern Utah Community Credit Union, For the Love Décor and at the Student Center at the college.”

Students at Castle Heights Elementary have been challenged by Smith to gather shoes as a class to help the less fortunate families in Africa. Smith has promised to reward the class that gathers the most shoes with a Root Beer Float party.

“These shoes really do go towards a great cause, they send them over to Africa and it’s just for people in need and some of these shoes even get sold so they can build wells for the people, provide food for them. So it really does go for a great cause,” stated Smith.  Last year the Miss Utah Organization gathered 100,000 pairs of shoes. This year’s shoes will bring clean water, food and education to people living in Burkina Faso, Africa.

If you would like to arrange a pickup of your donated shoes or have any questions you can email Miss USU Eastern at celeste.yvonne.smith@gmail.com. Smith finished by saying, “Just want to again thank the community, I mean already throughout my year they’ve done so much and so thank you all and I hope I get a lot of shoes
