Cole Fossat pitched five scoreless innings as the Carbon Dinos defeated 4A Maple Mountain 13-0 Wednesday afternoon at home in a non-league tilt.

Extending their winning streak to three games, the Dinos set a blistering pace offensively registering 14 hits. Talon Abeyta ended with three RBI, while Chase Morgan, Dallyn Mower and Anthony MaClean each finished with two.

Fossat pitched the first five innings and found his groove after running into trouble in the first frame. After walking the bases loaded, he struck out the ensuing batter and forced the next one to hit into a double-play to get out of the inning. Out of the 17 batters faced Fossat struck out six, walked four and gave up only two hits.

“I think the guys are doing a lot better job, especially at the plate,” said head coach Jeff Cisneros. “I thought we struggled a little more than we should have the first four or five games, and now our bats are coming alive.”

The Dinos jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and added four more in the third frame to take a commanding lead. MaClean replaced Fossat in the final inning on the hill to finish the dominating effort. The win improves Carbon's overall record to 3-5 after starting the season with five consecutive losses.

“Our pitching has been pretty good as a whole,” said Cisneros. “Right now we are averaging about two errors a game and that's something that we have to clean up. We are relying on a lot of young guys pitching for us, and they have done well so far.”

Now winners of three straight the Dinos will take the rest of the week off before returning to the field on Monday against the Union Cougars. Monday will be the final non-region game before the Dinos open up league play against Canyon View on April 5.
