Emery High School juniors Koby Butler and Bowdie Jacobson have been selected to the 2A All-State basketball team following a vote from coaches in the classification.

Butler averaged a career best 19 points to go along with 10 rebounds and one steal per game during a standout junior campaign. Leading the Spartans to their second straight Region 15 title, he recorded nine straight double-doubles while switching from power forward to center mid-season.

Jacobson continued to grow in his first season as a full-time starter, averaging 12 points a contest to go along with five assists and two rebounds. Playing nearly every minute of meaningful basketball throughout the season for the Spartans, Jacobson was a catalyst for Emery on both sides of the ball.

Senior point guard Darrin Gethers from the state champion Summit Academy Bears was voted 2A’s Most Valuable Player by the Deseret News. Leading his team through the state tournament, Gethers averaged an impressive 20 points per game along with five assists and three boards.

Mark Burton from the 2A runner up Layton Christian also received a first team nod. South Summit’s Mason Gines, North Sevier’s Trevor Okerlund and Waterford’s Jackson Sponaugle were also selected to the 2A All-State team.

Emery finished third at the 2A state tournament in February, defeating Gunnison in the consolation game following a loss to the eventual state champion Summit Academy Bears.
