A huge second half lifted the Emery Spartans to a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Gunnison Bulldogs in league play, giving the Spartans their third consecutive win.

Tied 0-0 at the end of the first half, the Spartans delivered Gunnison their first loss of the year as both Ashton Dieli and Ethan Winter found the back of the net. Chandler Christensen scored the lone goal for the Bulldogs in the losing effort.

Tuesday’s win marks the fifth in sixth games for Emery, who now sits 3-2 in league play and 5-2 overall. Emery has won each of the last three games by one goal, topping Manti on March 17, and South Sevier March 22.

The Spartans will look to hand another unbeaten team their first loss of the season when they play host to Wasatch Academy on Thursday. Sitting a perfect 2-0 in region play, Wasatch Academy has outscored their opponents 15-1 this season.

Thursday’s home match is scheduled for a 4:00 pm start and will be the final game of the week for Emery.
