Spring semester is winding down at USU Eastern and students are either preparing for commencement at the end of the month or applying for admissions and scholarships for next year. Greg Dart, Vice Chancellor stopped by the KOAL 103.9 FM News Room to talk about important information on scholarships and new programs added for next year.

“The scholarship deadline has been extended to May 1 so anybody that is looking at starting next fall you still have a little bit of time to apply for those private scholarships, apply for the departmental scholarships and academic scholarships when you apply for admissions,” said Dart. There was a strong tradition in dance when the college was established as College of Eastern Utah and since then changes to USU Eastern has found the dance falling to the way side until now. “We’re revamping our cheerleading squad bringing in a dance team. This will be a team that performs, has a showcase, will be at sporting events and other events on campus,” stated Dart. Auditions for the USU Eastern Spirit Squad will be held Saturday, April 16 for both the Cheer Squad and Dance Team.

Cheer Team will audition at 9:00 am in the Bunnell-Dmitrich Athletic Gymnasium. They are to bring a registration form, $25.00 audition fee, copy of insurance card and a headshot. Dancers will audition at 2:00 pm in the Dance studio at Bunnell-Dmitrich Athletic Center and are required to bring with them a $25.00 audition fee along with a headshot. Further information about auditions may be found on the athletics website at http://usueasternathletics.com/

It is important that athletic programs are added to what the community in both Carbon and Emery counties want to see on the USU Eastern campus, such as the addition of the Rodeo Team a few years back and now this year the set up of a softball program and dance program.

Dart explained another addition to the spirit squad, “We are starting up a drum line and this we can contribute 100 percent to what Carbon High School has done. They have been so successful in having a drum line and we’ve been hearing from those students and we want to make sure that we’re meeting the needs of our local students.” Students interested in being a part of the newly established drum line must complete and submit a spirit squad recruit’s form.
