The Carbon Dinos suffered back-to-back losses to open up Region 12 play Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Canyon View Falcons 13-6 and then again 18-7 in double-header action in Cedar City.

With the game tied 4-4 entering the bottom of the fifth in the first contest, the Dinos surrendered eight runs as Canyon View pulled away. Carbon managed to score two in the ensuing frame, but that’s as close as it would get.

Mitch Olsen was charged with the loss on the hill for the Dinos in the starting effort, striking out three in four innings. Cody Lowe logged a double and a home run in the losing effort and Jayden Flemett knocked a double. As a team the Dinos tallied eight hits, compared to nine for the Falcons.

Unable to bounce back from the first loss Carbon suffered another defeat, this time 18-7 in four innings in the second game of the double-header.

The Falcons created space early scoring nine runs in the second inning to take a commanding lead. Trailing 14-2 going into the fourth frame, the Dinos answered with five runs. Canyon View quickly fired back scoring four runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning.

Cole Fossat struggled on the mound giving up seven earned runs and 10 hits in two innings of work. Gavin Robinett pitched two innings of relief work for Fossat, surrendering four earned runs and six hits.

Despite the struggles on the mound, Fossat was dynamic at the plate as he pushed the Carbon offense. Finishing 3-3 in the box, Fossat ended with two doubles and home run to go along with two RBI. Nate Olson, Chase Morgan and Cody Lowe each logged one RBI.

Now 0-2 in region action and 4-7 overall, the Dinos will have one last chance to top Canyon View when the two teams go head-to-head in Helper on Friday. After a rule change in the off-season, every Region 12 team will meet each other three times, instead of the traditional two.

Friday’s contest is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm. Following the final game between the two teams, the Dinos will meet the Richfield Wildcats for a three game set next week.
