The Emery Lady Spartans suffered a heartbreaking 15-14 extra innings defeat at the hands of the San Juan Broncos in a back-and-forth battle Tuesday afternoon in Blanding.

Falling for the second time in as many region games, the Lady Spartans scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning. Unable to keep San Juan off of the scoreboard, the game went to an additional inning. Scoring two runs in the top of the eighth, Emery allowed three runs in the bottom half of the inning, leading to the eventual loss.

Bailey Huggard delivered a dynamic performance knocking two home runs and double, which led to four RBI. Kelsey Reeve also connected on a home run and brought in a team best five RBI. Jessica Mason finished with two RBI, Ashlun Clark and Addy Healy both registered one.

Huggard was dealt the loss on the hill pitching four innings, giving up four earned runs, five hits and four walks. Clark pitched 3.2 innings of relief work, allowing nine hits and two earned runs. Emery was charged with 10 errors in the field as a team.

Now 0-2 in 2A East play, the Lady Spartans will next take the field on Friday as they play host to the Broncos for the second and final meeting of the season.
