USU Eastern is hosting a free Internship and Job Fair for students and businesses in the community on Tuesday, April 12 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the USU Eastern Jennifer Leavitt Student Center. This event is an opportunity for employers to meet and greet a potential intern for positions they might have with their business.

Amy Peters, CTE Advisor & Internship Director said, “We are wanting to promote those jobs that are in the local community to come put a table up and be ready to take in the community and our students that are here.” Benefits of hiring a student intern could mean receiving workload relief, opportunity to mentor, possible future job candidate, most importantly partnership and support students at USU Eastern.

There currently are nine companies registered for the event, Emery Care Center, USU Eastern Prehistoric Museum, Let’s Play Music, Chrysalis, Elwood Staffing, Caption Call, Fish Lake Resorts, Direct Business Lending and USU Eastern. There is still plenty of time and space available for employers to sign up for the fair.

Student interns also receive benefits from an internship like use of their skills, take on challenges and engage in a business or trade they might be looking at as a career. “It gives a trial run for the student as well as the employer, so that employer is able to mentor that student and that provides a great resource and benefit long term for that student,” said Peters.

Students attending the Internship and Job Fair are encouraged to bring copies of their resume, dress professionally and be prepared to talk to a hiring representative at the fair.

Individuals that would like to participate in the internship program must be registered students at USU Eastern in order to receive credit. “It goes towards your electives, if you need a filler or during the summer you need that little bit of job and the networking it’s so important for you to do this opportunity and look on our job board,” stated Peters. A student will sign up for the Internship/Cooperative Ed course and can receive one to three credits towards their certificate or degree.
