The theme for this year’s Relay for Life is Paint Your World Purple and will be held at a new location and time. The event will be held at Carbon High School on Saturday, June 25 beginning at 9:00 am and run till midnight.

In the past, committee members have seen a decline in participants walking the entire night so they have decided it was best to go the route of other Relay for Life events across the country by beginning the community walk in the morning and ending at midnight. “Paint Your World Purple and we have a new location, we are doing a daytime relay those are some of the fun things and there will be lots of entertainment,” said Ruth Metzger an Event Organizer. The Survivor meal will now be a breakfast provided by Lin’s Market and will begin at 8:00 am. Survivors can contact Marilyn Vogrinec at 650-0680 to reserve your spot.

“About 10:00 we will start our survivor lap then the teams will be walking and we will be walking all day until midnight,” stated Metzger. The Carbon High location will provide more parking and easy access for individuals with a disability by allowing them to park down at the bottom close to the track to unload wheelchairs.

The Relay for Life Committee is now encouraging businesses, civic groups to register a team for the event. Teams can consist from five to fifty individuals. Metzger continued, “It can even be a family team, maybe you have a family member that has been affected by cancer and you would like to recognize them by having a team, family teams can come together as well.” If you are unable to participate in the walk but would like to make a monetary donation, you can contact Ruth at 650-4552.

Fundraising efforts have all ready begun for registered teams in the Carbon and Emery areas. “The Cancer Society Relay for Life walks are designed to help generate money for research and education, education in the fact that people need to go get screened for this or that type of cancer and then the programs that are available to them for that.”
