The Carbon Lady Dinos used a solid team effort to finish second place in their lone home meet of the season at the Carbon Country Club golf course Wednesday afternoon in Region 12 competition.

Keely Marquez scored a team best 29 points to lead the Lady Dinos to a final total of 107. Juab claimed first place with 120, increasing their overall lead in the current standings. Canyon View finished third, followed by North Sanpete and Richfield.

Indie Gardner ended with 27 points, scoring the second highest total for the team. Gwyn Kardelis finished with 26 and Lexi Garcia scored 25 to round out the four scores used in Wednesday’s meet. The competition marked the first meet for the team since the team’s fourth place finish at Cedar Ridge in Cedar City.

“What a day a difference can make in this sports,” said coach Kenji Otani. “Our scoring has been better, but the girls are starting to believe in themselves. That’s the most important thing.”

Wednesday’s performance pushes Carbon slightly above Canyon View in the Region 12 standings with only three weeks remaining. Juab has a strangle hold on the top stop and North Sanpete is well ahead of Richfield for fourth.

The Lady Dinos will continue the golf season Wednesday, April 20 when they travel to Solider Hollow, the site of this year’s state championship competition. The team is expected to tee-off around 10:00 am.
