As the track and field season nears the two major meets of the season, the Carbon Dinos and Emery Spartans traveled north to the Brigham Young Invitational in Provo Friday afternoon.

With over 75 schools competing, the teams were divided into two groups matching 1A and 2A schools in one division and 3A, 4A and 5A schools in the other. Both Carbon and Emery finished outside of the top 20 in the final scoring.

Lady Dinos junior Sarah Ohlwiler scored all six points for Carbon as she finished third in the long jump. Ohlwiler finished just behind second place finisher Tiera Orr from Desert Hills High School and first place finisher Sophie Hartline from Salem Hills.

The Emery Lady Spartans finished 22nd overall as the team tallied 22 points, scoring in multiple events. The boys team had a similar finish, ending in 23rd place with 21 points.

With the invitational now complete, both schools will prepare for the season ending region and state meets. Emery will travel to Moab on Tuesday to compete in the Region 15 finale, while the Dinos will next travel to Juab for the Region 12 championship.

Following the region meets qualifying members will travel back to BYU for the state championships on May 20 and 21.
