Senior Andrew Richins will represent Carbon High as the school’s lone qualifier for the state tennis tournament Friday in St. George.

Richins qualified for the state championship following his fourth place performance at last week’s region meet in Manti. Entering as the No. 4 seed, Richins will go head-to-head with Snow Canyon’s Matt Morgan, who finished as the No. 1 seed from Region 9.

The state tournament will be a single elimination format. All matches will be two-out-of-three sets with regular scoring. A seven-point tiebreak game will be played for all sets tied at 6-6.

If Richins can defeat Morgan he will advance to the second round to meet either Park City’s David Payne, or Logan’s Stuart Hopkins in the second round. A second win would put Richins in the bracket’s semifinals.
