The Emery Spartans suffered a season ending 6-3 loss to the Grand Red Devils in the one-loss bracket in St. George Friday afternoon.

Bryce Dugmore was charged with the loss on the hill for the Spartans in a game where the team played from behind throughout. Despite some success in the middle innings, Emery struggled to produce much offense.

Friday’s loss marked the second straight for the Spartans as they suffered a 10-5 setback on Thursday to North Sevier. The two tournament losses came against region opponents who finished a combined 6-0 against Emery this season.

Before falling to the one-loss bracket the Spartans enjoyed unexpected success in the first two rounds. After defeating San Juan 6-5 in the play-in game, Emery defeated both South Sevier and Kanab on May 7 in Richfield. The two wins put Emery into the quarterfinals against North Sevier.

Friday’s loss dropped Emery’s final record to 8-17 for the season, five of those eight wins came in the final two weeks of the year.
