As the spring sports season reaches the home stretch student-athletes around the state are receiving recognition for excellence inside the classroom. Spanning over four sports, eight individuals from Carbon and Emery High School have qualified for the Academic-All State team in their specific sport.

Carbon’s Gabe Vandyke, Dalton Latimer and Emery’s Travis Fehlberg all received nods for the award in boys track and field. Vandyke and Latimer are two of 10 that have been selected to the team, which has a combined 3.999 grade-point-average. Fehlberg was also one of ten selected to the 2A All-Academic team, which finished with a combined 3.989 GPA.
Lexi Monson from the Lady Dinos track and field squad earned one of the 10 spots awarded to the 3A girls team as the members accumulated a 3.999 GPA. Tennis player Andrew Richins capped off a fantastic senior campaign by also receiving the honor that required a 3.994 GPA.

Abram Hadfield and Ethan Shorthill, both members of the Emery boys soccer team, etched their place on the team that finished with a combined 3.987 GPA. Softball player Jessica Mason also received the honor finishing with a group that had a combined 3.998 GPA.

The Utah High School Activities Association in conjunction with the Deseret News present the Academic-All State award each year to students on the basis of their athletic ability and academic proficiency.
