Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood stopped by the KOAL 103.9 FM Newsroom to talked about his department’s involvement with the DWR’s Cops and Bobbers, Badges and Blades Kids Day event, UTV safety and the Demolition Derby in August.

“It was awesome, I just want to say thanks to the DNR for including the Sheriff’s office in that. The DNR puts that on, they have the funding for that and they have all of the archery, tackle and the fishing equipment and all that stuff. Then the Kiwanis, they’re so awesome, they come and provided hot dogs and drinks for the kids for the day. It went for I think for about eight hours, it was pretty neat,” said Wood.

Graduation is right around the corner and our youth are outside on a more frequent basis playing and riding their bikes. Please use caution when driving in residential areas and keep your speed down as you never know when a ball followed by a child will run out from behind a parked car.

The weather is warming up and people are starting to enjoy the outdoors especially on UTVs and more so during the upcoming Memorial weekend. Wood reminded members of the community that safety is very important, “The leading cause of injury for UTVs is people not wearing their seatbelts in the UTVs, I just want to throw that out that I just read that the other day. You know I ride a UTV and its easy at times to think I don’t need my seat belt on but if you tilt that thing over you want to stay inside it.”

Community members still have time signup for the Carbon County Search and Rescue Demolition Derby in August. “Derby is around the corner. We have I think there are more than fourteen cars signed up right now for our derby. Its free until the middle of June and then they will register them up right up till the day of the derby but its free to put a car in,” said Wood. “I would encourage anyone who is interested in putting a car into the derby to meet with Elsie and Paul down at Tire King. They’re doing the signup board, they’ll have the rules. The 80s or new chain and bang is the popular way to go that seems to be the most cars we have, it’s very inexpensive to build a car.”
