After taking a one year break the Helper American Legion baseball team will return for the 2016 season and will once again be led by Carbon baseball coach Jeff Cisneros.

“Last year we stepped away from legion and didn’t have an opportunity to play because we did some other stuff,” said Cisneros. “This summer we have a chance to bring American Legion ball back to Helper and I’m excited about that.”

Tryouts for this year’s team will take place Monday and Tuesday at 6:00 PM at the legion field in Helper. All participating legion teams will be divided into two divisions and a season ending tournament will take place to decide the state champion.

In place of legion baseball last season Cisneros placed two teams in Utah’s Perfect Game, a league designed more for development and less for competition. This year Cisneros will place one team in the league to give the younger kids an opportunity to sharpen their skills.

“We are going to run two baseball programs this summer to try to give the kids in Carbon and Emery county a chance to get some baseball in,” said Cisneros. “I’m excited to bring this back to our area for the summer.”

Tryouts for the younger team will run the same two days as tryouts for the legion team, meaning all those interested in playing this summer need to attend tryouts. For more information contact Cisneros at 435-820-8379.
