A mid-inning rally from the Carbon Dinos fell just short as the team suffered a 10-6 loss to the Dixie Flyers in a 3A state tournament elimination game Friday afternoon at Kearns High School.

Falling behind 6-0 early in the game, the Dinos rallied to chop the deficit to just one run in the fourth inning. Carbon had several opportunities in the final three innings to capture the lead or tie the game, but ultimately failed in the season ending loss.

Mitch Olsen was tagged with the loss on the hill in Friday’s finale, giving up five earned runs off of seven hits in three innings of work. Anthony Maclean pitched the remaining four innings, allowing just five hits and two earned runs.

Cole Fossat once again led the offense for the Dinos, smashing a two-run home run, his fourth in as many tournament games. Cody Lowe finished 2-5 at the plate, registering a double and two RBI. Junior Wyatt Wilson also logged two hits, and scored one run.

Friday’s loss ends a run in the state tournament that started with two thrilling one run wins over Park City and Cedar. After advancing to the quarterfinals the Dinos lost their first game to the eventual 3A champions in Pine View.
