USU-Eastern has officially named Scott Fields assistant men’s basketball coach, it was announced by vice chancellor Greg Dart.

Fields, who was brought in mid-season last year as a special assistant, has a lengthy resume that includes stops with the Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors NBA Summer League teams. Fields has also done work with top European, Asian, Latin American and Oceanic players throughout the world.

“I’m thrilled to be apart of the program and apart of the rebuilding process,” said Fields after joining the team in January. “Everyday is an opportunity to grow personally and professionally, so when coach Vando asked me to be apart of the team I was extremely excited.”

Helping install a new offensive mindset, Fields had an immediate impact after joining the USU-Eastern staff in December. After a slow 0-4 start to conference play, the team finished 5-7 with him on the bench, including wins over Southern Idaho and Snow College.

Entering year five under head coach Adjalma Becheli, Fields will be the only assistant on the staff. The opening for an assistant was created when the school and former assistant Justin Brown decided to part ways in May.
