The 10-year old Carbon Cal Ripken All-Stars completed their pool play 1-3 at the Pacific Southwest Regional Tournament in Rohnert Park, Calif Friday afternoon.

A member of the Bill Ripken pool, Carbon competed with Northern California (Elk Grove), Northern Utah (Riverton), Southern California (Long Beach), and Hawaii. Suffering losses to Northern California, Northern Utah, and Hawaii, Carbon scored their lone victory over Southern California.

Falling behind early in the opening contest Carbon never managed to recover offensively in the opening loss. Riley Davis was charged with the loss on the hill despite a solid performance. In three innings of work Davis recorded four strikeouts, allowed six hits and walked two.

The lone run of the contest came from Maizen Prichard, who stole home moments after recording a walk to take first base.

After falling to Northern Utah on Monday the Carbon Cal Ripken 10-Year Old All Stars responded by easily defeating Long Beach 15-8 Tuesday afternoon.

Jumping out to an early 5-0 lead by the end of the first inning, Carbon managed to keep Long Beach, the Southern California champions, scoreless for the first two innings. Extending their lead to 12-4 by the end of the third, the final frames were a formality as Carbon improved to 1-1.

Riley Davis earned the win on the mound as he pitched two scoreless innings to help Carbon create a substantial lead early. CJ Smuin, Maizen Prichard and Ridge Nelson all received time on the hill in the lopsided win.

Scoring only one run in the tournament’s opening game Monday, Carbon’s offense exploded Tuesday as the team combined for 18 hits and seven walks. Long Beach finished with 15 hits and only three walks.

Following the lone win Carbon dropped both of the final two games 13-3, ending pool play on the outside of the championship round. In both games Carbon was unable to keep pace with their opponents offensively, putting them in early holes.

The 1-3 finish at the regional tournament ends a highly successful 2016 summer that saw the team win their third consecutive state championship. This year’s consisted of Cameron Vasquez, Quade Henrie, Maizen Prichard, Camden Wilson, CJ Smuin, Ridge Nelson, Diego Vega, Riley Davis, Peyton Molinar, Liam Carlisle and Talon Shirley. The team was managed by Shane Henrie, Omar Molinar and Joe Vasquez.
