The International Days horseshoes tournament brought such a high number of participants, organizers were forced to separate the field into two brackets Saturday afternoon at Washington Park.

35 teams in all joined the Saturday tournament, which has long been apart of the city’s weekend celebration. 18 teams made up one bracket, and 17 filled in the other for a competition that lasted roughly six hours.

Michael and Dustin Lofley finished first in the bracket which held 17 teams. Bart and Colton Olsen came in second, and Rhett Popejoy and Ryan Olsen finished third.

Rickey Sandoval and Cody Allen took home the championship in the bracket that held 18 teams. Zach Rodriguez and Antonio Cordova finished second, and Josh Eden and Casey Norton finished third.

“We expected this to be the biggest tournament of the year, and it didn’t disappoint,” said event organizer Rochelle Badback. “35 teams is the biggest turnout we have ever had for this tournament.”

Sandoval and Allen finished the double-elimination format undefeated, while the Lofley’s fought back after losing one game.
