Our dear mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away August 24, 2016 of incidence due to age in Price, Utah.

LaRean was born on June 12, 1928 in her Grandmother Chadwick’s home in Spanish Fork, Utah. She was the 2nd of 7 children born to Kendall B. and Effie Isabell  Chadwick Carr. She moved with her family at a very young age to Helper where she spent her childhood attending the Helper Central School and Helper Jr. High then graduating with high honors from Carbon High School in Price, Utah in 1944. Mom’s greatest dream was to attend college but due to WWII and family obligations her talents were needed elsewhere. She worked for the Helper Journal, Ed Shea Law Office and Utah Railway as a clerk where she met the love of her life, Paul L. Young. They courted and were married on May 26, 1948 in Manti, Utah. She then returned to work for Utah Power and Light in the Price office and retired from there after 40 years of service.

They have 2 children, Paula Thatcher and Scott Young. Mom and dad have been living with Scott and Dana in Price for the past 4 years where they have been lovingly cared for by them and Dana’s extended family. Mom always looked forward to the get-togethers at Marilyn and Arch’s house.

LaRean served tirelessly in the Relief Society, Sunday School and Young Women’s programs of the LDS Church. Very active in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers she served as Camp President, Secretary, Parliamentarian and Lesson leader. She was a knowledgeable teacher and very creative when writing entertainments for the youth and the sisters in the Helper Ward. Mom and Dad worked for many years in the Baptistry in the Manti Temple. She was known for her handiwork in piecing and hand quilting many award winning quilts, embroidery and crochet items and she even dabbled in water color painting. She generously gave these items to family, friends and Humanitarian services. She passed this legacy on to her family as a common thread they share with Grandma.

Paul and LaRean sold their home in Helper in 1987 and moved to St. George where they resided for 25 years in the Bloomington Hills area. Mom loved taking college classes and was always sharing something new she learned at class that week. They made many close friends and missed them terribly when health problems forced them to move to Price.

LaRean is survived by her husband of 68 years Paul L. Young (Price, Utah). Children: Paula (Scott) Thatcher of Monroe, Utah and Scott (Dana) Young of Price. Seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren will miss Grandma’s offers of a cold soda and ice cream bars. She always had a bowl of Werther’s caramels by her chair to share.   She is also survived by a sister Lynette (Jack) Young and brother Paul B. (Shirley) Carr. She was preceded in death by brothers Joseph Kendall, Thomas Ray, James Elmo and a sister Betty (John) Baysinger.
