The Carbon Dinos extended their overall Region 12 lead as they earned their second meet victory in as many tries Thursday at Soldier Hollow Golf Course in Midway.

Led by Ryker Smith’s tournament low 73, the Dinos finished with a team score of 306, topping second place North Sanpete by 16 strokes. Canyon View finished third with a 335, followed by Richfield and Juab.

Kayden Alderson helped push the Dinos to the victory by shooting a 75, tying with North Sanpete’s Joe Garlick for second place individually. Joey Penovich shot a 76, Ryan Gagon and Carson Martines ended with an 82 and Wyatt Henrie an 86.

Smith, Alderson and Penovich all finished in the top five individually Thursday. Soldier Hollow will also be the site of this year’s state tournament in October.

Now two meets deep into the season the Dinos hold a 26 stroke lead over North Sanpete for first place, and a 44 shot lead over Richfield. The team will have an opportunity to extend their lead on Wednesday when they travel to North Sanpete.
