Von J. Frandsen, age 86, passed away Aug. 27, 2016 at his home.
Von was born Jan. 17, 1930 in Castle Dale to Jennie Frandsen. He married Betty Wilcox, the love of his life on Oct. 17, 1950 in American Fork. Their marriage was solemnized Aug. 15, 1970 in the Manti Temple. They were married for 65 years. They had 3 children, Jay Von Frandsen (deceased), Dale W. Frandsen (deceased) and Lori Hardee.
Von grew up and attended school in Castle Dale and attended high school at Central High until it burned down and then went to South Emery High School in Ferron. He was very handsome and athletic.
Von spent time working in the CCC’s building bridges and roads. He served in the Korean War.
Von was a UMWA member and spent many years in the coal mining industry, loading coal trucks, and running the cat that opened Deer Creek Mine. His second job was operating his farm, which he did when he came home from work. He would spend hours and hours working his farm. His hobbies were farming or tinkering in his shop. He would take trips with his wife, family or friends.
Von was the hardest working man his family has known. He would design and weld useful items that he needed on the farm. He was always thinking about what he was going to do the next year and how he was going to do things better. He wrote a few lines in a little notebook everyday about what he did on the farm and would compare those notes year after year to improve how he did things. He never quit farming.
Von was a member of the LDS church. He was very supportive of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He attended his family’s performances, games, ball games, wrestling matches, cheer and drill events, motorcycle races, swimming, and school activities.
Von is survived by his wife Betty W. Frandsen; daughter Lori (Tom) Hardee; daughter-in-law Lorraine Frandsen; brother Steven (Rhonda) Cox; grandchildren Deborah (Jason) Worley, Rebekah Frandsen, Patricia (James) Byars, Jake (Amanda) Frandsen, Felicia (Chad) Nielson, Melissa Gordon, Jenna (Daniel) Madsen, Jeffrey Gordon and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sons Jay Von Frandsen and Dale W. Frandsen, parents Jennie and Donald Cox, and in-laws Dell and Fern Wilcox.
A viewing will be held Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016 from 6-8 pm at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale. Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 2, 2016 at 11:00 am with a viewing 1 hour prior to services at the Castle Dale 3rd Ward. Interment with military honors at the Castle Dale Cemetery entrusted to Fausett Mortuary. Family and friends may sign the guestbook and share memories of Von at www.fausettmortuary.com.
