The Emery Spartans shaved 21 strokes off of their total score in the second trip of the season to Palisade, but still limped to a fourth place finish at Thursday’s Region 15 meet.

Ending with a team score of 365 the Spartans finished two strokes behind third place Manti, and four strokes behind second place Gunnison. Once again Grand ran away with the meet finishing with a 328. San Juan and North Sevier rounded out the field of six.

Oakley Toomer finished with the low score of the day for the Spartans ending with an 87, just one stroke better than teammate McKoy Holt. Race Nielson and Shaidyn Killpack both shot a 95 to complete the four scores for the team. Deryk Fuller ended with a 101 and Logan Healey shot a 126 in the two scores that were not counted towards the final total.

Despite the fourth place finish Thursday the Spartans still have a hefty 39 stroke lead over Manti for second place overall. Grand continues to dominate the region, extending their lead to 222 strokes with only three meets remaining before the state tournament on Oct. 5.

The teams will continue the league season on Sept. 15 when they travel to the Hideout Golf Course in Monticello.
