The USU-Eastern Lady Eagles remained unbeaten on the season with two wins Thursday and Friday topping Southern Nevada 3-1 in conference play and Grand Canyon University 2-0.

Alexi Barbosa scored the game’s first goal in the 29th minute to give the Lady Eagles an early 1-0 advantage. USU-Eastern held the lead until Southern Nevada’s Carli Perkins tied the game in the 51st minutes off an unassisted goal.

The game remained tied until Bella Sorensen connected on the go-ahead goal off of a penalty kick in 76th minute. Three minutes later Rachel Neff scored off an assist from Ryan Virgil to ice the conference opener for USU-Eastern.

Shayann Jones logged all 90 minutes as goal keeper, finishing with four saves. Southern Nevada attempted just five shots on goal compared to 15 for the Lady Eagles.

Rolling the momentum built on Thursday over to Friday, USU-Eastern completed the weekend sweep with a non-conference victory over Grand Canyon University. The win improved USU-Eastern to 5-0 on the young season.

Up next for USU-Eastern the team will travel north for two conference games in as many days against the Salt Lake Community College Bruins. The next home game for the squad will come on Sept. 23 against Sheridan.
