Despite holding an early first quarter lead, the Carbon Dinos allowed 48 points in the final three quarters as they suffered a 62-8 loss to the Grantsville Cowboys on the road Friday evening.

Nate Olson once again paced the Dinos offense as he accumulated 77 yards on 12 carries, while scoring the team’s only touchdown. After having success through the air in the region opener against Emery, quarterback Triton Abeyta failed to convert a completion in four attempts.

As a team Grantsville racked up 259 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the ground. Senior Riley Smith led the push with 82 yards on only eight attempts. Fellow senior Andrew Floyd also carried the ball eight times and notched 52 yards.

Running 39 total plays for the game the Dinos managed just two first downs offensively. Sophomore Collin Lewis led the team in rushing attempts with 18 and provided 55 yards of offense to help carry the load with Olson.

Grantsville finished with 400 yards of total offense behind a stellar performance from junior quarterback Coy Johnson, who completed 4-5 passes for 140 yards. Junior AJ Rainer gathered 185 return yards to highlight a solid evening.

Friday’s loss dips Carbon to 0-6 overall and more importantly 0-2 in region play. Tied with Union for fifth place, the Dinos are currently on the outside looking into the playoff picture. Up next will be a home contest with the Morgan Trojans on Friday, Sept. 30.
