The Emery Spartans golf team wrapped up the regular season with a second place finish at the region finale Monday at the Carbon Country Club Golf Course.

The Grand Red Devils finished off a dominating season by ending with a team score of 301 to claim a clean sweep of the competitions. The Spartans finished tied with San Juan after shooting a 343, just edging fourth place Manti’s 346. Gunnison and North Sevier rounded out the field of six.

Entering the region meet close to 300 strokes behind Grand and well up on third place Manti, the Spartans were expected to end the season in second place. The strong performance in the last meet of the region season also helped the Spartans log three individuals in the leagues top 10 for the season.

McKoy Holt notched the low score for the Spartans with an 80. Oakley Toomer chipped in with an 84 and Race Nielson followed just behind with an 86. Shaidyn Killpack notched the team’s fourth score with a 93. Deryk Fuller and Logan Healy finished out of the top fourth with a 99 and 105.

Individually Oakley Toomer placed eighth in the highly talented Region 15. McKoy Holt finished ninth and Race Nielson ended 10th. The Grand Red Devils made up five of the top ten spots.

With the regular season now in the books the Spartans will turn their attention to the season finale on Oct. 5 and 6 at Soldier Hollow. Stay tuned to Castle Country Radio for the pairings, when they become available.
