On Saturday, 9-24-16 just past noon, Price City Police Officer Cameron Sartori stopped a vehicle near 700 E Main in Price, because the driver was allegedly not wearing his seat belt. It turned out the driver’s license was also not valid.

The driver (and only occupant of the vehicle) was identified as Elias Abel Mascarenas, DOB 7-15-78 from Price. During the contact, Officer Sartori allegedly detected the odor of raw marijuana.

Mr. Mascarenas was subsequently found to be in possession of a total of a little over 34 grams of marijuana, individually packaged portions, packaging paraphernalia, other paraphernalia including a digital scale, and a small amount of a personal use alleged heroin.

A white container that much of the marijuana was located in had labelling indicating the marijuana was purchased at a dispensary marijuana outlet in Colorado. It is still illegal to possess marijuana in Utah that came from Colorado, even if it was legally purchased there.

Mascarenas was booked into the Carbon County Jail on a charge of Possession of Marijuana With Intent to Distribute as a third degree felony. The Carbon County Attorney’s Office will review the police report to determine appropriate formal charges.

Mascarenas has been arrested 30 previous times for a wide variety of offenses, with 24 convictions, including five felonies.
