The Emery Lady Spartans suffered their third consecutive region defeat in a 4-1 setback to the Grand Red Devils Thursday in Castle Dale.

Jocee Funk scored one goal in the opening half to keep Emery in striking distance, trailing 2-1 at the end of the first half. The Lady Spartans were unable to keep pace on both sides of the ball as the Red Devils added two goals in the second to earn the comfortable win.

Emery is in need of one win or a North Sevier loss to clinch Region 15’s final playoff spot. Following Thursday’s loss the Lady Spartans now have sole possession of fourth place, two games up on North Sevier with only two games to play.

The Lady Spartans will have an opportunity to end a three-game losing skid that dates back to Sept. 20 when they play host to North Sevier on Tuesday. A loss would put Emery in a position to win their final game on Oct. 6, or hope for a North Sevier loss in their finale to advance to the post season. Emery won the first meeting between the two schools
