Wellington Elementary is hosting an array of activities one of which was their McTeacher Night that was held on Tuesday, October 11 at McDonalds. Several students along with their friends and family attended this event where a portion of sales for the evening were given to the school.

Principal Stacy Basinger talked about their character trait or skill program that they do each month, “You know each month we have a focus of a character trait or skill we are working on as a school. We always pick something that’s going to make us a better student, better friend, better family member and this month we are talking about team spirit and recognizing we all have a role on the team. Whether that’s a class team, a grade level team, our school team, but not only that but as a family team member. We took it a little farther and we want people to recognize or students to recognize we’re part of a community team and as a team member we’re looking for ways to help one another, we want to move the team in a positive direction.” Spirit Days are taking place on Friday, October 14 were students can wear blue for Bully Prevention month and Friday, October 28 students are able to wear a Halloween themed shirt or color. Students will be able to participate in a Halloween parade on Monday, October 31.

Basinger explained the schedule for Fall Break this year, “Normally Fall Break is on a Thursday and Friday but this year it’s a little different. On Monday the 24th it is a Legislative Day and Legislative Days are scheduled or slated for professional development for teachers. So on Monday the 24th the teachers will be involved in training across the district but students will not be in school. So that is going to be different for families, we need to make sure that they are prepared to know that they will be out on Thursday the 20th, Friday the 21st and Monday the 24th.”  The end of first quarter will be on Thursday, October 27.

The district has been busy working on a Wellness Policy since July of this year due to changes that have been required in the schools. “The USDA released the final regulations for the frame work for the districts, so that’s why our district has been actively involved in getting this policy written. They did a committee of students, of parents, teachers, district personnel,” said Basinger. There will be more information in the coming days about the policy and how it will affect parents bring treats to the classrooms.
