Merle Ann Olsen Swanson, age 78, passed away October 17, 2016 at home with her children by her side.

She was born February 8, 1938 in Castle Gate, Utah to Leland Albert and Rose Black Olsen.  Shortly after graduating from Carbon High School, Merle married Dale Eugene “Swanie” Swanson in Dragerton, Utah on June 1, 1956.

Merle was a longtime resident of Carbon County who loved playing in the dirt. She spent countless hours working in her yard and tending to her flowers.  Merle loved the serenity of her home and nothing more than snuggling up in her blanket and Muumuu, while enjoying a good book.  She also loved to bake and paint ceramics.

Merle was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed watching NASCAR, baseball and basketball.  She loved to bowl and could shoot trap with the best.  Merle warmed the hearts of many and her smile could brighten anyone’s day.

Survivors include her children, Kevin (Andrea) Swanson, Dalene (Larry) Olsen, both of Price; sisters, Lorraine Olsen, Cedar City, Laurie Olsen, St. George; 4 grandchildren, Brandon (Claudia) Erickson, Brian Erickson, Brittnie Adams and Kelsey Swanson; 8 great-grandchildren and her faithful companion, Midge.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dale; brothers, Chuck and Kenneth Olsen; and great-grandson, Draven Peay.

Funeral service, Thursday, October 20, 2016, 12:00 noon at Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main Street) in Price where the family will receive friends one hour prior to services.  Interment, Price City Cemetery.  Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories of Merle online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net
