The Emery Spartans opened up the swimming season with a dominating victory over Wasatch Academy, Gunnison Valley and North Sanpete on both the boy’s and girl’s side of the pool Friday afternoon at the Emery County Aquatic Center.

The Lady Spartans scored four first place finishes in the 11 events, while using plenty of depth scoring to finish with 432 points. Wasatch Academy finished second with 209 points, followed by Gunnison and North Sanpete.

Emery’s boys team logged seven first place finishes, including two from both Garret Stilson and Daryl Guymon to finish with 463 points. Wasatch Academy finished in a distant second with 333 points.

The Spartans opened up the first meet of the season winning four of the first five events. The women’s 200 yard medley relay team consisting of Alexis Johansen, Tarryn Parkins, Katie Carter and Kaelee Hooley cruised past the competition with a time of 2:17.88. Hooley would later add another top finish in the 200 yard IM and the 100 yard back stroke.

Guymon claimed individual first place finishes in the 200 yard IM and 100 yard fly. He also helped Stilson, Deegan Michey and Keldan Guymon to a first place finish in the boy’s 200 yard medley. Stilson locked up first place in the 200 and 500 yard free.

Keldan Guymon helped add to Emery’s final point total with a first place finish in the 100 yard breast. The boy’s 400 yard freestyle relay consisting of Garret Stilson, Malone Moss, Levi Olsen and Daryl Guymon notched the team’s seventh first place finish in the final event of the day.

With the season now underway the Spartans will continue a busy schedule as they travel south to Cedar City on Friday, Nov. 11 for an invitational pre-season meet. The team will return to the pool in Castle Dale 10 days later.
