The GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is hosting several events for Carbon, Emery and Green River High School Seniors that are planning on attending college for the 2017-2018 school year.

There will be a USU Open House held on Tuesday, November 15 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center on the campus of USU-Eastern. Brandon Flores, Director spoke about the importance of attending “Seniors you definitely want to show up to this event. You’ll learn all about what it takes to get admitted into USU-Logan and USU Eastern. They’ll actually be waiving the application fee which is $50.00 normally. This is the only day throughout the whole school year that they will be waiving that application fee.” Carbon and Emery Seniors are urged to bring with them to the Open House an official transcript with their ACT scores to see if they are eligible for a scholarship.

A Utah College Application Day will be held on Wednesday, November 16 at Carbon High from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm and at Emery High from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. “All of the Colleges and Universities throughout Utah are going to be sending representatives at each of these schools to provide information to students but also to help them begin the application process,” stated Flores. There may be some colleges that will be waiving application fees for Seniors who participate.

Also, happening on Wednesday evening is FAFSA Completion Night at Emery High from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Flores added, “Seniors and parents are invited to attend that in order to complete the FAFSA application. Now the FAFSA application stand for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. That’s your opportunity to get free money for college.”  FAFSA Completion Night for Green River High School will be held on Thursday, November 17 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and at Carbon High School on Monday, November 28 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Representatives from USU Eastern Financial Aid Department will be on hand during the FAFSA Completion Nights to answer any questions pertaining to FAFSA. It is important students/parents bring their 2015 income tax return to help determine eligibility.
