The USU-Eastern Eagles men’s basketball team finished a brutal four game road trip 2-2, running their overall record for the young season to 2-4.

Playing four games in as many days, the Eagles opened the road trip with consecutive wins over Chandler Gilbert and Scottsdale Community College Thursday and Friday. Unable to keep the momentum rolling the Eagles dropped back-to-back games to Mesa and Pima Community College Saturday and Sunday.

After topping Chandler Gilbert 92-76 on Thursday, the Eagles used a strong second half showing to top Scottsdale 75-69. Trailing 37-34 at the end of the first half, USU-Eastern outscored Scottsdale 41-32 in the final 20 minutes to secure the win.

Sophomore Roman McKnight led the way with 16 points and 10 rebounds after shooting an efficient 7-12 from the field. Fellow sophomore Cam Bailey also recorded a double-double scoring 12 points and grabbing 13 boards.

As a team the Eagles shot a blistering 53-percent from the three-point line, which ultimately proved to be the difference in the contest. The win brought the team’s overall record to the .500 mark after starting the year 0-2.

The following night the Eagles struggled from the field shooting just 34-percent from the field as they played for third time in as many nights. Connecting on only two of 11 attempts from the three-point line, the Eagles were outscored by 15 in the final half.

Once again McKnight posted a team high 18 points, while not missing a shot inside the perimeter. Standout Quinn Peters was held intact scoring just 10 points on only eight shots. Showing signs of fatigue the Eagles committed 27 turnovers.

USU-Eastern traveled to Tucson the next day as the team wrapped up the busy four game stretch with a 92-90 loss to Pima Community College.

McKnight again paced the offense with a season best 25-points as he knocked down 8-13 shots from the field. Peters and Milan Surlic both chipped in with 14 points, Bailey recorded 12 and returning sophomore Alex Morrell ended with 11.

After playing the first six games of the season away from Price, the Eagles will return home Friday and Saturday as they welcome in Arizona Western, Treasure Valley and Impact Academy. The upcoming weekend will mark the only home games for the Eagles until December.
