The Emery Spartans delivered a dominating first half performance as they comfortably defeated Waterford 63-45 Friday morning in the 2A/3A Preview at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield.

Seniors Koby Butler and Bowdie Jacobson scored a team best 18 points as the Spartans improved to 2-0 on the young season. Fellow senior Kolton Butler chipped in with 11 points and Easton Gordon scored seven in the victory.

Jumping out to an early 15-5 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Spartans continued their dominance by outscoring Waterford 22-7 in the second. The solid first half performance was more than enough for Emery to ease their way to the win.

Alexander Priskos delivered most of the production for Waterford as he scored a game-high 20 points. Jackson Sponaugle finished with 18, while two others logged four and three points. After being held under single digits through the first two individual quarters, Waterford managed to score 33 points in the final 16 minutes.

Friday’s win for Emery comes a week after topping Richfield in the season opener. The Spartans will participate in one more game at the 2A-3A Preview on Saturday as they meet a familiar foe in South Sevier at 7:30 PM.
