Despite a strong first half performance the Emery Lady Spartans suffered their first setback of the season as they dropped a 53-47 decision to the North Summit Braves Friday night at the Spartan Center in Castle Dale.

Sophomore Megan Jensen accumulated a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Kacelyn Toomer chipped in with 14 in the loss. Lainee Jensen finished with five points and Kinlee Toomer chipped in with four.

The Lady Spartans developed a comfortable seven point first quarter lead as they raced out to a 17-10 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The two teams battled back and forth from that point on, and North Summit unloaded with a powerful second half to take control.

Kennedy McQueen poured in 16 points to lead the Braves to their third win of the season. Ashlin Blonquist and Elise Richins both finished in double-figures with 10.

Friday’s loss dips the Lady Spartans to 2-1 on the season following two blowout wins over South Summit and South Sevier to open the season. Friday was also the first of three consecutive home games for Emery.
The homestand will continue on Tuesday as Emery welcomes in North Sanpete. So far this season the Lady Hawks are sitting 2-2 overall with wins over Manti and Lehi.
