A sluggish offensive performance plagued the Carbon Dinos as the team suffered its second consecutive loss, this time falling 51-47 to the Juab Wasps on the road Friday night.

“29-percent from the field, 17 of 31 from the free throw line and 10 of 20 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter pretty much sums it up,” said head coach Kyle Wilson. “In the first two region games we were shooting really well, and even against Richfield we did. I have no idea what to contribute this shooting performance to.”

Kyle Quinton continued his stellar play for the Dinos by recording a team-high 26 points in the setback. Fellow senior Jamin Jensen also reached double-figures with an 11-point performance. Gage Daugherty finished with five and Derek Hillam scored three.

Connecting on close to just 30-percent of shots from the field, the Dinos struggled to accumulate points throughout the first three quarters. Trailing 32-25 entering the fourth, Carbon scored 22 points in the final eight minutes, but still fell short in the region contest.

“All we did was put up shots and for that to happen I blame the basketball gods,” Wilson said jokingly. “We deserved to win and we played hard enough to win. There was just a lid on the basket throughout the night.”

Aaron Clark carried the majority of the load for the Wasps with 26 points. Ryker Osborne finished with eight points, six of which came from deep. Max Gurney chipped in with six as the Wasps earned their first region win of the season.

Friday’s loss comes just two days after the Dinos suffered a heartbreaking one-point loss to the Richfield Wildcats. The team had started league play a perfect 2-0 before the back-to-back losses, but now sits in third place in the division.

Following a bye on Wednesday the Dinos will return to the court Friday against the North Sanpete Hawks. Friday’s contest will be the second meeting between the two schools this season. Carbon won the first back on Jan. 10 at home.
