Despite holding a slim first half lead the Carbon Dinos were unable to hold off a stellar second half performance from the Canyon View Falcons, leading to an eventual 63-52 setback Friday night in Cedar City.

Offensively the Dinos managed to out dual the Falcons from the field, converting 23 field goals. The game’s biggest discrepancy came at the charity stripe, where Canyon View finished 17-26, compared to Carbon ending 1-2.

Kyle Quinton again paced the Carbon offense as he poured in a team best 16 points. Jamin Jensen and Ty Moynier both contributed 11, while Chase Morgan and Gage Daugherty finished with five. As a team the Dinos connected on five shots from deep.

Up 29-25 at the end of the first half, the Dinos were outscored in the third 16-10. Canyon View used several late trips to the free throw line to pull away from Carbon, and earn a split in the season series.

Brantzen Blackner delivered a phenomenal performance for the Falcons as he finished with 25 points, five rebounds and four assists. Porter Miller provided a second option for Canyon View, finishing with 16 points and five boards.

Down to just one game remaining in the regular season, the Dinos find themselves in a battle for a playoff berth. Currently one game ahead of Juab in the win column for the final playoff spot, Carbon will have a bye on Wednesday. Friday the team will return to the court to wrap up the regular season against Juab at home.

A win for Carbon in the regular season finale would assure the team at least the No. 4 seed from the division going into the state tournament. A loss would mean the team is in danger of missing out on the play-in round altogether.

Friday’s game will be the final home contest of the careers of four seniors. Quinton, Daugherty, Morgan and Jensen will be honored before the game, which is scheduled for a 7:00 PM tip-off.
