Two first half goals was enough to lift the Emery Spartans to their first region victory of the season as they defeated the Grand Red Devils 2-0 Tuesday in Castle Dale.

Brock Winter, and Juan Caicedo each found the back of the net in the first half to lead the Spartans in Tuesday’s win. Tayvan Cook recorded the shutout for Emery, the third for the Spartans in five games this season.

Tuesday’s win comes following a region opening loss to Manti on Thursday, March 16. Despite the loss Emery played to a 1-1 tie with the Templars through the first half, but was unable to log another goal in the second.

Now 1-1 in 2A Central play, the Spartans sit two wins behind Manti and and Gunnison for first place in the division. The win sets the stage for a highly important league tilt with Gunnison on the road Thursday afternoon.

Playing on Tuesday and Thursday each week of the regular season, Emery’s next home game will take place on March 28 against the South Sevier Rams.
