The Emery Spartans, Carbon Dinos and Pinnacle Panthers opened the brand new cross country season with a trip to Moab to compete against nine other schools in the Red Rock Invitational Wednesday afternoon.

Led by freshman Bryar Meccariello, the Emery Spartans boy’s team finished third overall. Meccariello logged the top individual performance of the day by finishing seventh with a time of 17:13.6. Senior Ty Funk came in 10th overall with an ending time of 17:32.6. Senior Tanyon Allred finished 12th, while Griffin Livingston and McKay Meccariello ended in the top 20.
Junior Anthony Jones helped the Carbon Dinos boy’s team to a seventh-place finish overall. Jones completed the race in 18:17.9, good enough for 24th place. Jacob Jewkes, Ammon Wilson, Mackinnon Lyman and Ammon Wilson all logged top 50 finishes.

On the girl’s side of the course the Carbon Lady Dinos finished fourth overall as Regan Hansen and Grace Broadbear both finished in the top ten. Hansen ended seventh overall with a finishing time of 21:23.0, while Broadbear finished tenth with a time of 21:35.9. Makara Morgan and Emma Haddock both finished in the top 20.

The Pinnacle Lady Panthers finished 11th overall as 12 individuals competed. Sophomore Savana Dart finished 39th overall for the top team performance. Kaeley Taylor, Stephanie Sasser and Angel Welch finished in the top 60.

All three cross country teams will continue the season next week. Emery will travel to Richfield, while Carbon will compete at a pre-region meet at Maeser Prep.
