Carbon County is currently seeking applications to fill vacancies on the following boards and committees for terms beginning January 1, 2018:

The Board of County Commissioners appoints members to a number of boards and committees which advise and assist governing County programs. Serving on an appointed board or committee is a great way to participate in decisions that affect you and to learn more about how local government works.

Volunteer boards and committees play a variety of important roles and are designed to encourage citizen participation in government, provide representation of different interests and viewpoints, and to take advantage of specialized skills, expertise and experience among persons generally employed in areas other than government.
These various boards also advise the County Commissioners on service priorities, how to distribute available resources, and how to improve collaboration with the communities within the County.

CARBON COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION
Number of Vacancies: Four (4) (2 Regular & 2 Alternate)
Positions: Two (2) Regular Terms: Regular: Four (4) year term
Two (2) Alternate Alternate: Four (4) year term
This is a seven member board that is appointed by the Board of Commissioners and meets monthly to recommend zoning ordinances and maps, subdivision regulations, amendments to same, requests for conditional use permits, etc. to the County Commission.

CARBON COUNTY TOURISM TAX ADVISORY BOARD
Number of Vacancies: Four (4) (3 of which are industry related)
Terms: Two (2) year terms
This Board meets twice per year, more if necessary. The focus is on the promotion of tourism and the development of tourism related facilities within Carbon County. Board members are responsible for making recommendations to the Carbon County Commissioners for the expenditure of the restaurant sales tax and transient room tax collected in Carbon County. The Board must be composed of members living within Carbon County, and a majority of the
members must be current employees of entities operating restaurants or hotel/lodging businesses within Carbon County. The balance of the board members must be employees of recreational facilities, convention facilities, museums, cultural attractions, or other tourism-related industries located within Carbon County.

CARBON COUNTY CAREER SERVICE COUNCIL
Number of Vacancies: Four (4)
Positions: Three (3) Regular Terms: Regular: Three (3) year term
One (1) Alternate Alternate: One (1) year term
This five-member bipartisan board, mandated by state law, consists of three regular members and two alternate members. Meetings are held on an as-needed basis to hear appeals not resolved at lower levels in cases of career service county employees that have been suspended, transferred, demoted, or dismissed as well as in cases of other grievances not resolved by the grievance process at the county and/or departmental level.

HOUSING AUTHORITY OF CARBON COUNTY
Number of Vacancies: One (1) Regular Term: Four (4) year term
This board meets every other month and its main responsibilities are to create policies for financial management and approve budgets, hire an auditor to audit financial records, write the agency’s long-range plan, approve departmental budgets, set broad personnel policies, and monitor routine monthly expenditures.

SCOFIELD RESERVOIR SPECIAL SERVICE DISTRICT
Number of Vacancies: One (1) Regular (Singleton’s) Term: Four (4) year term. This six member board meets quarterly and is responsible for the operation of the sewer systems in the subdivisions/campsites surrounding the reservoir. The applicant must be a cabin owner in the Singleton’s Campsite.
Carbon County Sheriff Merit Board
Number of Vacancies: One (1) Regular
Terms: Six (6) year terms
This will be a six year term and meetings are held as needed. Members must be citizens of
Carbon County for not less than five years and hold no other office or county employment. Not
more than two members shall be members of the same political party. This may not be filled by
a person who is a registered Democrat.

Southeastern Utah District Health Department Board of Health
Number of Vacancies: One (1) or more Regular
Term: Three (3) year term
This Board consists of members from Carbon, Emery and Grand Counties. The Board meets quarterly, or more if necessary. All Board members appointed by the Carbon County Commission shall reside within Carbon County. A majority of members may not be primarily engaged in providing health care to individuals or in the administration of facilities or institutions in which health care is provided; hold a fiduciary position or have a fiduciary interest in any entity involved in the provision of health care, or receive either directly or through a spouse more than 1/10 of the member’s gross income from any entity or activity relating to health care. Some travel to Board Meetings in Moab, Green River & Castle Dale may be required. Members serve without compensation but shall be reimbursed for travel expenses. The purpose of this Board is to determine the general public health policies to be followed in
administration of the local Health Department. The Board may adopt and enforce public health rules, regulations, and standards necessary to implement the Board’s public health policies. They approve the annual budget for the District as well as fee schedules, grants and contracts received from the State of Utah and Federal Government, increases and decreases in program funding for the department, and employee benefits. The District reports to the Board Members on audits conducted for the accounting department and some of the program departments. The Board is nonpartisan and appointment is made without respect to political affiliation. Board members
cannot work for the Health Department.
