Carbon High School senior Nate Olson has been named to the 3A All-State Football First Team after a sensational 2017 campaign.

Voted on by coaches throughout the 3A classification, Olson was one of three running backs to earn an All-State First Team Selection. The 5-foot-10 standout led the team in rushing yards with 1,115 and eight touchdowns on the ground.

Olson is the first Carbon High School football player since Jan Jorgensen in 2003 to receive an All-State First Team honor. Playing in nine games during the 2017 season, Olson averaged 5.8 yards per carry and 123 yards per game.

Despite finishing 0-10 this past season, Olson led a charge of competitive football from Carbon. After scoring 53 points combined 2015 and 2016 during region play, Carbon scored 67 in 2017. The improvement was also apparent defensively as the team allowed 83 fewer points compared to 2016.

Olson also enjoyed success in the classroom, earning an Academic All-State nod back in October. The group of ten recognized for academic excellence combined for a 3.993 Grade-Point-Average.

The All-State selections were formally announced Tuesday morning by the Deseret News, who also selects the classifications Most Valuable Player.
