The second half of the school year is underway, and as the month of January continues to fly by Wellington Elementary has plenty of activities to keep students busy during the winter months.

On Wednesday, Feb. 7, Wellington Elementary will take over the Carbon High School auditorium for their annual music show. The event will feature kids in second, third, fourth and fifth grades, as well as the performing choir. The show has become a tradition at Wellington Elementary, as students have an opportunity to perform in front of a live audience.

“We hold these at Carbon High School, in their auditorium. We appreciate them letting us bombard their school that evening,” said Wellington Elementary Principal Stacy Basinger. “We get a good turn out for these events. We bring family, friends, and neighbors. It’s about and hour, and it’s just adorable.”

The following week the school will gear up for Student Educator Parent Conferences. Each school in the district has the liberty to set a date for the conferences that best fits around their schedule. The date set for Wellington Elementary is February 13, and 14.

“Those notices will start coming home in a couple weeks so parents can plan, because we love for them to attend,” said Basinger. “It’s a great time to celebrate the progress that’s happening, and also address some of their questions or maybe concerns, We’re hoping parents will make sure they attend that.”

Another event happening at the school on Feb. 22 is “Community Night”. This particular event is open to anyone in the community geared towards kids and families. The evening focuses on parenting strategies, technology, cyber bullying and emergency plannings.

“We’ve reached out to some various agencies in the community and were bringing in those things we feel are pressing needs across anyone that has children right now,” said Basinger. “It’s going to be a big night with lots of information. We’ll have dinner, activities for the kids, and whole focus on families.”
