At the beginning of the year the swearing in ceremony in East was held to swear in the newly elected mayor, Harry Goslin Jr and two city council members, Larry Wood and Donald McCarthy.

Goslin took the Oath of Office in front of members of the community and immediately followed it by reading a statement announcing his resignation. In his statement he stated that he would not be able to fulfil his duties as mayor due to personal issues that may require him to move out of the area. During the election he brought in a significant number of votes to beat out the current Mayor Doug Parson, who was seeking re-election.

East Carbon City sent out a Public Notice announcing that applications would be taken for any interested parties. A total of eight applicants were considered through a set of questions in front of council members during the city council meeting held on Tuesday. After careful consideration the city council made the decision to appoint David Avery, who was a current council member to the mayor seat.

This will now open up a seat on the city council that will need to be filled. Applications are available at city hall and currently being accepted for anyone who is interested.
