Sally Mauro Elementary is being showcased for the Carbon County School District’s weekly update. Principal Jarad Hardy took time away from the school to come in to share the latest happenings with his students and faculty/staff.

“Right now, we’ve had a big push for reading with our students. We’ve been sending home Book in the Bags with the students and we have been signing them up for a program called Raz-Kids,” stated Hardy. Prior to registering each student, they were leveled by their reading ability and comprehension. The program allows for online access to many genres of books that fit that student’s particular reading level. In just the two months since the push for ready, school officials have seen a tremendous improvement with students.

The school is planning through fun activities to raise awareness about autism with the student body. “We are going to do some activities to talk about autism but also talk about differences that students may have and talk about acceptance. We’re going to do some activities with the movie Wonder for the older grades and we’re going to do some other activities with the younger grades to talk about that,” said Hardy. The administration hopes that these activities will lay the foundation for parents to have discussions with their children about understanding and respecting differences.

With the end of the school year on the horizon, Hardy finished by saying, “I just want to thank the kids for their hard work this year. We’ve shown tremendous growth from the start of the year to now and the trajectory we’re on, we’re going to finish and have a great end of the year this year.”  To keep informed on what is going on at Sally Mauro Elementary visit their Facebook page.
