The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. Price Post 3 American Legion was started in 1919 and was incorporated in October 1923 by the state of Utah.

“This starts in March of 1919 with a group in the Paris Peace Talks; the Fall of 1919 in November was when they were sanctioned and authorized, and we are the only service group that is recognized by Congress,” explained Commander, Neldon Huff. The organization is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in their communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to their fellow servicemembers and veterans.

A few of the youth programs that Price Post 3 is a part of is the Boys and Girls State Program that takes place in June at Weber State University. “Which teaches then a little bit about what the government is all about from the top, down to the bottom to the city level,” stated Commander Huff. “And we are involved in American Legion Baseball, we are involved in the parades, but we have a real good program here in Price and we are here to serve the community.” The organization also provides Color Guards for parades, school graduations and other activities that require Flag ceremonies.

Post 3 is all about providing assistance to their fellow veterans in the surrounding areas. “We are here to serve the veterans and their service people, where they are American Legion member or not. We do annual about 40 military funerals a year and we do anywhere from Sunnyside to Green River,” said Commander Huff. They assist the Emery County American Legion quite often due to the age of their members who have difficulty handling firearms.

The organization is looking forward to hosting an Open house at their post next year in recognition of the Legion’s 100th-year celebration. Further details will be shared with local news outlets as the time draws near.
