John Wesley Cooper was 95 years old when his Mama took him by the hand and said,” It’s time to come home now, John”

He passed peacefully in his home with his wife by his side.

John was born on June 16, 1922 in Stigler, Oklahoma to Woodruff Doxtater Cooper and Annie Elizabeth Grabe Cooper.

He passed away on April 16, 2018 just 2 months from his 96th birthday.

He had many adventures as a child and while he was growing up with his family on a dairy farm. As a young man his family moved to Colorado where they grew up in the beauty of the mountains with rivers and streams abounding. One of his favorite pastimes was fishing. He enjoyed this sport wherever he lived during his life. He joined the Navy in 1941 and was a Seaman 3rd class until he was released in 1946. He worked at mines all over the western states, and retired from Kaiser Steel in Eagle Mountain, CA in 1980. After he was released from the Navy, he married his bride Eilene E McCarthy in December of 1946.

Together they were blessed with five children: Gary Dean (Bonnie), Ronnie Ray (Pam), John Richard (Vickie), Cynthia Louise (Jim) Woodruff Dale. These children blessed them with thirteen grandchildren, over forty great
grandchildren, 10 great, great-grandchildren.

John and Eilene were married for 71 years.

John had 8 brothers and sisters with only his youngest brother Joe Cooper still living.

John was preceded in death by his son John Richard; grandson, Eric Richard Cooper; Mother and Dad; brothers, Brayton, Charlie, Howard, and sisters; Miriam, Ann, Bessie and Sylvia.

There will be a viewing for John at Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 East Main, Price, on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. Graveside service Wednesday, April 25, 2018, 1:00 p.m., services at the VA Military Cemetery, Grand Junction, Colorado.
